I was reading on Nick Pettit blog post yesterday about Art and the Web: Value and it inspired me to write a list on assessing a web design mock-up for myself:

Desaturate the colours
Add gaussian blur to your mock-up
Squint your eyes and re-assess your mock-up
If the visual hierarchy, navigation, main CTA are easily identified with your squinty eyes, then…
You Rock!

And then I did some further research today and found many design heroes are in fact true devouts of ‘The Squint Test.’ method. Another really useful tip is to take a step back to see the big picture.

Another creative use of parallax scrolling.

My only question is the intuitiveness of the navigation. I sent this link to a non-web designer friend and he initially thought it was a splash page and did not even realise it was separated in a few sections. However, once you get the idea, it becomes a really clever and engaging experience. Check it out!

Beautiful, unique styles, creative colours and brilliant graphic composition. Discover more here. Not a big fan of the “Flash” site but definitely worth checking out.
